Many people ask me: Do I need a fitness test? Can we set up a training program without a test? The answer to the first question is yes. An overall fitness test is not just useful. It is necessary! First, the test helps to determine your overall physical condition, which is the starting point for your training. Second, based on the test results, we can develop an individual training program. Third, after two or three months you can repeat the test and track the results of the training schedule you have been following. The results will help us to adjust the training program so that more attention can be paid to the areas that are lacking.
Get your overall health checked by a physician before starting to train. It is also advisable to test your physical condition. A personal trainer can help you do that.
What does an overall fitness test consist of?
• Filling in a questionnaire about your health
• Measuring your heart rate and blood pressure
• Evaluating your aerobic capacity by taking indirect measurements of your maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 max)
• Testing your body composition (proportions, body mass index, body fat percentage, body measurements)
• Testing your flexibility (body and shoulders)
• Evaluating the maximum power and endurance of the major muscle groups
• Discussing the results. We will discuss the weekly training micro-cycle as well as the annual plan. You will get recommendations on balanced nutrition, and selection and use of food supplements.
